After having a bit of a sewing hiatus I decided to make myself a summery dress with this bright, fun pineapple print fabric from the Fabric Store in Brisbane. Therefore, it turned into a day trip stopping in at James Street markets where I also purchased fresh sourdough and thick garlic steaks! So it was a win, win with fabric and a BBQ dinner.

Pattern Information

Pattern: Colette Macaron Dress (Now Seamwork)
Pattern Description: Cotton Sateen from The Fabric Store

What did you like about this pattern?
I’ve made this dress a number of times now and love how you can mix and match the panels with different types of fabric. I did use cotton sateen for this dress but I have previously used stretch knit for the top section, which also made it really comfortable. You can see my other versions under, Collette Summer Dress, Colette Macaron Dress and the Collette Macaron Bright version.
Did you make any pattern alterations?
I made this version as per the pattern, which included the middle waist band and really loved how this turned out. Some of my previous versions I omitted this from the dress. I also made larger sleeves, as the original includes small capped sleeves.
Would you recommend this pattern?
I have only ever purchased three Seamwork patterns including the Macaron dress the Ceylon dress and the Lady Grey Coat. The pattern instructions are very easily to follow and are very high quality, making them great for beginner sewers. Despite being $20 per pattern they would be more of an investment for learners because of how easy they are follow through and also create a really beautiful garment that is very fashionable.
I am trying to get better at making videos of my garments, which you can check out on Instagram or Tiktok!
