I fell in love with my Shieke Copy Cat outfit so I decided to make another version in this linen fabric that I picked up from Spotlight. The combo of this shirt and skirt was originally inpired by this Sheike outfit on the right that I loved and bought in a few different variations.

Description: Button front blouse with notched collar with a front and back pleated yoke as well as a maxi skirt with a buttoned front, slash pockets & soft pleats.
Pattern: Simplicity 9857 (vintage) and Simplicity 9267
Fabric: Linen fabric by Spotlight

What did you like about this pattern?
I had made this combo before and knew I really loved it. I wasn’t sure about this fabric when I purchased it but I think it turned out quite nice. I added a plain navy contrast to the top panels and also the skirt band to break up the wild pattern.
The navy buttons were purchased from Lincraft, right before they closed down. I actually loved getting buttons from Lincraft because they were a lot more affordable that other large sewing stores.
Both the skirt and the shirt are a relaxed, baggy-fit style, which makes it really comfortable to wear. Both sewing patterns are also very beginner level, so they were really quick and easy to make with clear step-by-step instructions. The shirt is probably also out of print so you might be able to find it on Etsy stores.

Did you make any pattern alterations?
Both the skirt and the shirt were cut straight from the pattern without having to make any fitting or pattern alterations. Also, given this is a fairly baggy, relaxed style outfit the fit was already allowing enough ease. I did however crop the shirt so it was only about 3/4 the length of the original pattern. I did this because I wanted to recreate the same style as I made on the Sheike inspired outfit.
Would you recommend this pattern?
I would absolutely recommend these two patterns. I’ve made them twice now and also purchased some fabric from the Fabric Store, which I’m hoping to create this year. It might stop me from buying the really expensive Sheike combo every time they release a new print.
