Fluffy Handmade Monster Toys

When I saw this fluffy plush fur fabric on sale at Spotlight, I really wanted to test out making some kids plush toys. I created this sewing pattern from scratch with a circle as a base, a rounded body and two pointy ears. I also wanted to test out my embroidery machine using some fun, monster embroidered eyes from Choly Knight.

The pattern itself was really easy to draft up but due to the thickness of the fabric I had to hand stitch where the ears were joined.

Pattern Information

Pattern: Self drafted Monster Design
Embroidered eyes: Choly Knight Pattern
Fabric: Deluxe Fur Fabric from Spotlight and Hobby Fill

I originally made the ears a little too long but after a few trial and errors in the pattern I was quite happy with the shape and size. I have now made a number of these little monster furbies for my niece, nephew and friends children. I even had my friends kids come over and pick and choose what type of fabric, ear colour and eyes they wanted. Essentially allowing them to make their own plushie, which they really enjoyed.

The eyes were embroidered onto felt and I was able to embroider 4 different colour eyes in my large size hoop. I could then cut around the eye shape and I simply zig-zag stitched them onto the fabric.

These toys ended up being approximately 16cm width at the base, 20cm wide and 30cm high. So once you stuff them with hobby fill they are a decent size for children to cuddle and carry around.

When I first started to make these I stuck on a toy shaped nose, however then finding the embroidery design with the nose included, which means it’s safer for smaller size children. Below is the example with the pink button nose, which is also an option.

I am currently selling these plush monster toys on my Etsy page and plan to make a lot more for friends and family. I also really enjoyed coming up with and making my own monster toy design!
