When trying to find a dress pattern for an upcoming sewing event I went through the Lekala Pattern catalogue and found some really beautiful dress patterns. This dress features a basic v neck, flounce style skirt and colour contrasting fabrics with a side panel. I thought this pattern would be perfect for this fabric I purchased from Spotlight being able to feature the majority of the desert cactus design.

Pattern Information
Pattern: Lekala Asymmetrical Dress #2538
Fabric: Cotton Sateen from Spotlight
Pattern Difficulty: Medium

What did you like about this pattern?
This dress pattern stood out for me because of the skirt design. I loved that it had a separate side panel and that you could colour block and break up the main fabric. This pattern was also somewhat simple with only a few pattern pieces so it was really easy to cut out and stitch together.
I loved using this fabric but given the design I actually had to cut it on the wrong diagonal but given it’s cotton sateen (stretch fabric) it still worked quite well.

What pattern alterations did you make?
I had a look online and found another version of this dress where she extended the shorter side of the skirt. After making a toile I found that it was a little shorter than I liked so I matched this pattern alteration.
I also ended up making some sleeves to go with this dress as I wanted it to be more suited to a work style dress. I love that I was able to use the full length of this Spotlight fabric to show the full design.

Would you sew this again?
If I made this again I would likely extend the shorter side slightly but shorten the longer side slightly. Everything else on the dress I loved. I also purchased a cute white belt from Review clothing to go with this outfit. I think the colour block makes this dress really stand out so I’m really excited to try different colours for this dress.
